Goodman Denounces Kirk’s Environmental Duplicity

Speaking to voters at an Earth Day celebration in Northbrook, Illinois, Lee Goodman, Democratic candidate for U.S. House of Representatives (10th District), denounced his opponent for speaking like an environmentalist but voting like a champion of polluters. “This week Kirk said he wanted the Navy to transfer a tiny parcel of unused lakefront land near his home to an environmental organization so that it could be safeguarded. But just five months ago he voted to exempt the Department of Defense from regulations that protect the environment.” Goodman said. “The Department of Defense maintains over 25 million acres of fish and wildlife habitat on approximately 400 military installations nationwide. Kirk gave the military the go-ahead to take actions that could destroy this environment, and affect neighboring lands. Now he wants us to believe he is in favor of protecting the land. This inconsistency is an insult to people who truly care about environmental protection.”
