Goodman Calls for Rumsfeld to Resign

Lee Goodman, Democratic candidate for U.S. House of Representatives from the 10th district in Illinois, is calling for Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld to resign. “Over the past few days, Secretary Rumsfeld has had numerous opportunities to explain the failures that led to the abuse of Iraqi prisoners. He has demonstrated a complete inability to understand the responsibility that he and other high level officials have for what took place. Instead, he is trying to portray the abuses as deviant behavior by a few low-level members of the military. The United States cannot afford to allow its reputation in the world decline any further while Rumsfeld devotes his efforts to defending the administration instead of defending the country,” Goodman said. “If he won’t resign, he should be fired. If the president won’t remove him, the President should be called to account.”
