Rally Against Assault Weapons

Lee Goodman, Democratic Candidate for U.S. Congress from the 10th District in Illinois will sponsor a rally against the expiration of the federal ban on assault weapons. The rally will take place at the top of the Wallace Bowl at Gillson Park in Wilmette, Illinois on Sunday, September 12 at 6:00 p.m. The ban will expire the following day, Monday, unless Congress acts to extend it. To date, the Republican-controlled Congress has refused to allow the measure to come up for a vote.

The ban was enacted ten years ago. It prohibits private ownership of specified military style weapons. Police departments across the country have called for the ban to be extended, to prevent an outbreak of gun violence.

Speakers at the rally will include Lee Goodman; Jennifer Bishop-Jenkins and Jeanne Bishop, whose pregnant sister was gunned down in Winnetka; and Bill Jenkins, whose son was shot to death in Virginia.
