Goodman Applauds Republican Human Rights Group

Lee Goodman, Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress (10th Dist. IL), publicly stated his support for the efforts a Republican human rights group is making on behalf of gays in the military. The Log Cabin Republicans announced their intention to file a lawsuit asking a federal court to overturn the government’s “Don’t ask, Don’t tell” policy that prevents gays from openly serving in the military. Goodman has previously called for the policy to be abolished.

“So little remains of an independent, moderate voice within the Republican Party. It is courageous and exemplary for this group to stand up to the right-wing that has taken over that party,” said Goodman. “Although I am a Democrat, when an issue calls for bipartisanship, I am happy to cross over party lines. This is one such issue.”

Goodman called upon his opponent, Mark Kirk, to join him in supporting the initiative. “Kirk claims to be independent and moderate. It shouldn’t be too hard for him to join me on this issue,” said Goodman.
